Papendorpse Bridge

Papendorpse Bridge

The Papendorpse Bridge over the Rhine-Amsterdam Canal in Utrecht, Holland is an asymmetric cable-stayed crossing some 300 m in total length. The main span and back span lengths are 150 m and 75 m respectively.

Sectional model studies for the wind engineering studies of the bridge deck were conducted. A 1:60 scale sectional model was built and tested at the wind tunnel laboratory. The primary purpose of the tests was to evaluate the aerodynamic stability of the deck and its response to vortex shedding. The effect of ice build-up on the edge barriers was also examined and the static aerodynamic force and moment coefficients were measured.
